2 Quick Tips For Emerging Artists

Tip 1: Create content backed with strategy.

We all know the saying “Quality over Quantity “ but I’d say strive to have both because it will surely give you an upper hand.

I see artists who put out “singles”/songs every week. My question is, to what end? The consumers surely need time to digest your new effort so try to space out your releases.

You should push that single/project for at least 3 months after release.

For those weekly releases, you can also make them special attributing it as maybe a “weekly music” release to herald something more significant or perhaps a themed weekly release (rapping over old school beats/ rapping over afropop songs). In the end, this weekly release can now be packaged into 1 mini-project that everyone can check out.

E.g Nigerian femcee Phlow once partnered with HipHopDX for her #PhlowFridays many years ago and we later put the songs out as a 4-track project.

2: Social Media Uniformity

The artist should endeavour to keep their handles and Social Media presence uniform at all costs.

Biography Length

You can use a simplified bio on Twitter/IG. The simpler, the better as viewers should be able to understand your story at a glance.

You can go crazy on Facebook but I suggest you always highlight the important elements first before anything else. Keep It Simple

Social Media Handles

  • Strive to keep handles the same across all social media platforms. E.g for me it’s Teckzilla on all except IG/Twitter ( both teckzilla108) which is close enough. I usually say if you can, avoid special characters like “underscore”. Again, Keep It Simple.
  • Strive to link all Social Media profiles together.
  • Your IG should have a link to FB/Twitter/Soundcloud/Audiomack and/or more. Do the same for all.

Lastly, KEEP PROMOTING YOURSELF. You never know who is watching.

Are there other aspects I didn’t cover in this article? Do let me know.
