4 Elements For Personal Success
What is success? It may mean different things to people but simply put, it’s the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. Without diving into the never-ending rabbit hole of the word, I would like to keep things simple for everyone because, sometimes or most times, less is more and lastly the devil is in the detail so don’t fret about the big stuff- focus on the minutia.
I came across these 4 little things that could make a difference in your life and can be applied across all fields and endeavours. I already did the hard work and now I am presenting it to you all on a platter of gold.
1: Have A Routine
Directionless is a sure way to failure and a recipe for regression. One cannot just roam the Earth without some sort of routine to guide us or some form of measuring stick to monitor our lives. Having a routine goes a long way in keeping us on track.
For example, if you plan on losing a certain amount of Kg within a period, you need to create a recurring set of actions to do so. Without that, you would just be blowing aimlessly in the wind. Likewise, if you have a deadline for a project, having a strict and effective routine will make your work easier. Another method is to break things down into steps or goal points which you can cross out once they are achieved. Remember when I said not to sweat the big stuff? Keep your eyes on the small things as they will eventually add up to make up the bigger picture.
2: Use Simple Tools
Get rid of clutter, and close those extra tabs you are not using at the moment. Yes, we all get clogged up by clutter, both virtually, physically and mentally. The best way to go about it is to keep things simple and cut to the chase whenever you can.
Looking at this from a music producer/sound engineer viewpoint, at some point, I was busy collecting new plugins, hardware and whatnot but in reality, I could only use a handful of these plugins at a time. I thought to myself, why waste precious man-hours amassing plugins when it will only lead to more wasted time learning how to properly use them but rather master a handful and use them effectively?
My late aunty once told me, anything you have not used in 5–6 months will most likely not be useful so do yourself a favour, cut the dead weight and use simple tools to achieve great results.
3: Build Your Funnel
This can apply to everyone in the freelance world jumping from project to project. It’s never an easy task when nothing is guaranteed but what is certain is YOU. Build an unbeatable and enviable track record from the top down. Deliver top-notch results to your clients and make them refer you to others. We live in a global village and your antecedents travel faster than the speed of light so as we hip-hop heads say “Your word is your bond”.
You build clout by standing out from the crowd so don’t play to the gallery, start small and slowly build it, funnel style(as shown below, via Semrush).
Awareness: Let people discover you
Consideration: Give them a reason to test your service
Conversion: Win them over with excellent service
Loyalty: Make them recurring clients, loyal to you and only you.
4: Stay Committed
The last element is the most important aspect. We all often start with vigour which eventually trails off after a few months but the key is to always stay motivated and committed to the goals. It’s not going to be a smooth ride but where is the fun in smooth rides?
So, it’s either you have 5 months of progress or 5 months of nothing. The choice is yours.
