Consistency Is Key 🔑
In all my years of working as a producer/sound engineer in the music industry, the essence of maintaining consistency will never be lost on me. As a matter of fact, I say it’s key in all other industries as well and it’s an integral part of life plus the minute you start abiding by the rules of consistency, the better your life will be.
The first question people would ask is, why? Why should I be consistent?
Well, for many reasons but the first two reasons that popped into my head are for self-accountability and progress marking. We all need a point of reference, a gauge meter that can inform us of our growth or, I dare say, stagnation/retardation. Furthermore, let me break it down with these 5 reasons why consistency is paramount.
Consistency allows for measurement.
Allow me to reiterate that we all need a yardstick or gauge to guide us on our life progress. a point of reference and data to look back on if we ever need to make adjustments.
Consistency creates accountability.
This is instrumental to us taking charge of our lives. Instead of blaming others, we should always look within and take stock of our shortcomings and failings and avoid repeating them.
Consistency establishes your reputation.
My favourite quote of all time is “A good reputation is more valuable than money.” An individual with a solid reputation will hardly go hungry. I can’t count how many times my reputation opened doors for me and got me, clients. Nothing beats it.
Consistency makes you relevant.
In this day and age where relevancy is akin to social currency, having a consistent output will always put you in the eyes of the public and as they say, you never know who is watching.
Your angel investor might just be preparing something worth your while so keep at it and never quit.
Consistency maintains your message.
In this day and age of content creation, those with a consistent message will go further than those with inconsistent or haphazard ‘branding messages’.
Stick to the core of your being and build a fortress around it so no one can question your truth.
Now the question is HOW does one stay consistent in a world where distractions are in abundance? The truth is I don’t have the answers but there are certain guidelines one can follow to cultivate self-improving habits that would yield positive results in the long term.
You just need to state your goals.
Write them down, one by one.
Write out the steps needed to achieve these goals
Write out the variables within your control and those beyond your control
The last one, take it one day at a time. You don’t become a black belt-wearing student with just 2 weeks in the dojo.
