Why Having A Daily Routine Matters.

I have written about consistency before so I won’t go down that route but rather a different path this time around. The truth is consistency comes with things like intended goals. You can’t just be consistent in random activities but rather focus your mind on the steps, the little moves that build up the bigger movements.

They say if you spend just 18 minutes every day, for a year, on that thing you love, you would end up way better than 98% of people in the world. However, in this modern age where people are multifaceted, how does one stay focused and consistent?

Well, I don’t have the answers but I can provide a rough guideline for those who want to listen.

1: Know Exactly The End Goal.

This is pretty obvious but once you know what you want to get, you would be able to easily visualize the steps to get there.

be it learning how to build a website or a new programming language or learning martial art.

2: Write down the steps that would be required to achieve your goal.

e.g If you are grading to a higher belt in Taekwondo, there are certain tasks you need to complete before you are awarded said belt.

1: You need to know all the basic punches and kicks

2: You need to know all the basic hand blocks and strikes

3: You need to know the poomsae/form of the higher belt you are grading for.

4: You need to know the basic knowledge/history of Taekwondo

5: You need to be able to break the boards with either your hand or leg

6: You need to spar with another student of the same or higher belt

Once all these 6 steps are complete then a belt and certificate will be awarded to you. In essence, you need to break down the variables, know your parameters and follow through.

3: Record Your Daily Progress No Matter How Small

When I started learning UI/UX design, I had to change my outlook by taking in the new information bit by bit (or byte by byte if you will). Learning a design program such as Figma is not a day’s job but rather months and years.

For example, in the first week, you could learn how colours work in the app. Proceed to try it out yourself, make errors and learn new ways how not to do a task and note it

4: Practice, Practice and Practice

“We become what we repeatedly do.”

Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, Michael Jackson. These names are synonymous with greatness because of what they DID and they did it WELL by doing it over and over and over and over again.

Be like Mike and rinse and repeat that code you are working on, those spinning kicks you have been dreaming of or that beat that has been swirling in your head.

So go forth and make magic by following all these steps from top to bottom and again and again till it becomes second nature.
